Rikke Skytte: «My song describes how you can pick up pieces you lost and color them in a new way» (Danish finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Rikke Skytte, finalist of this year’s Danish national selection for Eurovision. The singer will perform «Color My World» in the final of DMGP, set to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2017!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Rikke Skytte: Well, 18 years old, sweet and just a bit crazy. That’s how I would describe myself. Right now I’m in my last year of school for now, so I’m really trying to live a double life right now. I need to be a 100% focused on music and school, but I love being busy and I love doing what I do right now. Making music and being with my friends and family!

I dream of being able to live from my music career, but also I dream of getting a real job. Right now, I see my music as a hobby, and being a thing I seek to when I feel for it. Music can’t be forced.

ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in DMGP 2017?

Rikke Skytte: I’ve always thought that DMGP was a song contest which could gather families and friends, and always dreamt of being a part of the final 10. When I got the chance to compete at the DMGP, and did not hesitate to say “Yes please!!”

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

Rikke Skytte: When I got the call it was a turn for me, I did not believe that suddenly I was a part of the biggest song contest in Denmark. But I was happy, and cried – such a big day for me.

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Denmark?

Rikke Skytte: It would mean the world to me, not only to represent my country, but also for me being able to do such a big thing like the contest in Kiev.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Rikke Skytte: My story behind Color My World, is actually just two basic sayings, but they are so meaningful. Treat other people as you want to be treated, and Color your world as you want it to be colored. The song describes how you can pick up pieces you lost, and color them in a new way, to create a new picture.

ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Rikke Skytte: My song is a party song, which I believe it needs to be when you’re going to win the song contest. Beside that my song and choreography are very strong, which also is a big part of the picture of the song.

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

Rikke Skytte: I only watch Eurovision if I can stay awake for so long, it is some long hours but also exciting to watch and listen to all of the songs. But my favorite song is The Olsen Brothers with “Fly On the Wings Of Love”!

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Rikke Skytte: The Olsen Brothers!

ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Rikke Skytte: Always remember to treat others as you want to be treated yourself. Smile and be happy!
