René Machon: «Warriors is a strong song that tell us to fight for our love, marriage and relationship» (Danish finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to René Machon, finalist of this year’s Danish national selection for Eurovision. René will perform «Warriors» in the final of DMGP 2017, set to take place on Saturday, February 25th.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2017!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

René Machon: I am a singer and songwriter. Have been singing in my cover band for more than 20 years, together with my brother. A band called Cruiseband.dk. I made a record in Danish in 2011, a where in DMGP in 2015 in a duet with Tina.

ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in DMGP 2017?

René Machon: I was asked to sing the song «Warriors». And after listening to it, I was swiped away. It’s a great song, that could make it all the way to Eurovision.

And at the same time, I was happy to get a second chance and a chance to really enjoying myself. Last time when I was in DMGP with Tina, there where too much things going on around us, that I forgot to relax and feeling happy.

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

René Machon: I did not expect it, and was so happy to get the chance again :-)’

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Denmark?

René Machon: It would mean the whole world to me, to represent my country. To sing for a million fans around the world in the biggest show ever.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

René Machon: The song is a strong love song, that tell’s us to fight for our love, marriage, relationship. Not to give up and walk away. To be a «Warrior», when there bumps on our way.

ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

René Machon: I think it has an international sound, and people with love the song, after hearing it for the first time.

I have been in DMGP before, and I have learned a lot of things last time I was in the competition. Things that have made me stronger and better.

ESC+Plus: Have you thought about your stage performance?

René Machon: It is going to be super!

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

René Machon: I have been watching Eurovision since I was 4 years old.  ABBA’s Waterloo, is the greatest song ever.

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

René Machon: Måns from Sweden. He is a great singer, and person. I was lucky to perform together with him before he won the Eurovision.
