KiNG FOO: «Our song is a warning for our lives, with dramatic and happy melodies» (Slovenian semifinalists – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Aleksandra Jo Sick, lead vocalist of KiNG FOO. The band will perform in the first semi-final of the Slovenian national selection EMA set to take place tomorrow.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Slovenian national selection for Eurovision 2017!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Aloha! We are KiNG FOO, a three-man and a woman hyperactive band. We write our own music in Slovenian and English language, but we also play a FOOsion of recycled covers. Everything you hear and see is made by ourselves, music, video, production, special effects etc. In 2015, when the new singer joined the band, we put the focus on our music, so in just few months we took part in Slovenian festival ‘’Slovenska Popevka’’. We won a third place, award for the best arrangement and award for the interpretation, so the radio stations have begun to roll every song of ours.

ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in “EMA 2017”?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Well, there’s a desire and motivation to search the compatibility with people and their energies worldwide.

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-final? Did you expect it?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Expectations aren’t good. We enjoy doing what we do anytime, a positive and sincere vibe is in every part of us and our instruments. When we heard it we were even more enthusiastic so we’re still cheer to it, every time we met.

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Slovenia?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: New galaxies, new dimensions.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: It’s an advice…or warning for our lives. With dramatic and happy melodies.

ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Dynamic road through emotions, energy and power.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us anything about your stage performance?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Wild.

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Maybe. ‘’There must be another way’’ – Mira & Noa Awad ( Israel 2009 ) / Secret Garden – Nocturne ( Norway 1995 )

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Raphael Gualazzi.

ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Aleksandra Jo Sick: Explore yourself and smile.
