Jade Vella: «Seconds Away is an avant-garde current RnB song with Eurovision influences» (Maltese Finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Jade Vella, finalist of this year’s Maltese national selection for Eurovision. Jade will perform «Seconds Away» in the final of MESC set to take place on February 18th.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Maltese national selection for Eurovision 2017!

What impelled you to take part in “MESC 2017”?

Jade Vella: The Eurovision song Contest for me means a great opportunity for each and every artist, a unique showcase as it is followed by millions of audiences round the globe with many fans running after all interesting songs which can achieve more in their carrier even if not winning so this impelled me to take part.

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

Jade Vella: Since it is my first attempt in the MESC 2017 because I just turned 16 when I got this fabulous news that I made it through to the finals I broke into tears with happiness. Although every artist believes in his work and I have worked a lot to achieve this placing I didn’t expect to arrive here.

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Malta?

Jade Vella: As an artist it would be a great achievement for me to represent Malta but on the other hand it serves as one of the biggest showcases.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Jade Vella: Seconds Away is an avant-garde, current, up tempo RnB song with Eurovision influences. The song is about teenage love where the girl is doing everything not to lose her boyfriend’s love.

ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Jade Vella: As mentioned above I believe that my song is a very current up-tempo song which the esc competition is heading for. My skills of singing and dancing can be of interest to the audience as this is the new Fashion in today’s Music Industry.

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

Jade Vella: Eurovision is a one to watch out as it gives an all round vision of entertainment in all aspects in Light, sound and vision. There are various good songs which I believe were above of the best entries in my opinion. one of my favourites could be Belgium’s entry 2015 » Rhythm Inside».

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Jade Vella: If i were to sing with a former participant it would be Hovi Star from Israel.

ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Jade Vella: My message to my fans is to keep up following my upcoming material which will be continuing after this major competition and thanking them for their support even though at an early stage. ‘keep smiling, keep singing’.
