ESC+Plus has talked to Golden Monkeys, candidates of this year’s Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision. The group will perform «Septyni dievai» in the Heat 6 of «Eurovizija» which will take place today.
ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Lithuanian national selection for Eurovision 2017!
Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?
Golden Monkeys: Yeah, sure. Some time ago we participated in some Lithuanian TV musical projects. Our songs are always on Lithuanian radio stations. We are going to present more songs for international listeners.
ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in “Eurovizija 2017”?
Golden Monkeys: Why not? We have a song in Lithuanian that can represent our country in the best way, telling the story of our country and ancestors.
ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the next phase of the selection? Did you expect it?
Golden Monkeys: Yeah, we really expected that. Anyway, we felt great.
ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Lithuania?
Golden Monkeys: That would mean a lot. We are representing not only the people here but also our ancestors, our small but very beautiful country.
ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?
Golden Monkeys: The whole song is full of Lithuanian spirit. The meaning is human’s continuing search of the truth. The seven Gods means our old religion paganism. So to make story short, it represents human being who goes through life, experiences many new things and Seven Gods lead him to his main goal by sending him many challenges that he has to go through.
ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?
Golden Monkeys: First of all, we are singing in our native language that is one of the oldest languages in the world, that is similar to Sanskrit. We have a strong song that would represent Lithuania as a country best of all.
ESC+Plus: Will you change anything from your stage performance for the coming shows?
Golden Monkeys: You will see next time. Only I can tell you is it will be really interesting.
ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?
Golden Monkeys: Yeah, we watch Eurovision. That’s a great contest. There have been many songs that we like and each year we have top 5 favorites.
ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?
Golden Monkeys: It’s difficult to say. There were many performers we’d like to sing with.
ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?
Golden Monkeys: Sure. Be yourself, believe.. Respect your ancestors and try to do your best creating better world for future generations. And most of all – enjoy the contest!
