ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2017!

Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

Calling Mercury: We met each other in a music class at school, and started making music together in the summer of 2010. At the beginning, we made electronic beats and vocals only by using a laptop. Since then, we have worked with music together and separately, performing in front of small local crowds, with 200 people. We have always aspired to make a catchy pop melody with a nice hook, even though our sound was experimental.

ESC+Plus: What impelled you to take part in DMGP 2017?

Calling Mercury: We feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to take part in the Danish national selection for Eurovision 2017, because it’s a great opportunity and experience for us, it can’t be compared to anything else we have ever done.

ESC+Plus: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the final? Did you expect it?

Calling Mercury: We couldn’t believe it at first, when we were contacted by the songwriters. We didn’t think that our style would appeal to the Grand Prix, but when we heard the track, we fell in love with it at first listen. We are extremely happy.

ESC+Plus: What would it mean to you to represent Denmark?

Calling Mercury: It would mean so much to us, to be able to represent our nation at the Eurovision song contest 2017. Denmark has been in the contest since 1957 and we have had many great songs through the years and therefore we would feel very proud to become a part of that tradition.

ESC+Plus: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

Calling Mercury: We see the song as an emotional state where you feel you have let your loved ones down, by lying and regretting it in the end. Therefore also a hope for forgiveness. The musical style is minimalist and low-key, so maybe not the usual style you would hear in the song contest.

ESC+Plus: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Kiev? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

Calling Mercury: The theme of the song is something most people can relate to, because it’s about the flaws of love. We will give you an honest and intimate performance. Hopefully, that will open the hearts of the listeners.

ESC+Plus: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What is your favorite song in the history of the competition?

Calling Mercury: Jeppe loves Sebastien Telliér, he performed Divine during Eurovision 2008. It was a fun, funky and very different performance. He had a very cool style and he introduced women with beards. And the electronic samples are amazing.

Joel likes the performance by Olsen Brothers with the song Fly On The Wings Of Love. It’s a great love song with an acoustic and “hyggelig” feel, and Denmark actually won Eurovision with that song.

ESC+Plus: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Calling Mercury: Sebastien Telliér because we like his electronic and cool vibe.

ESC+Plus: Finally, can you send a message for our readers?
